There are a number
of reasons why someone would want an imperfect diamond. Primary among them, is
the cost. Clarity being valued the way it is in diamonds- whether right or
wrong-still results with imperfect diamonds costing a lot less than diamonds
which are free of imperfection.
The price of this
diamond is at least 40% less than it would be for one which was VS1. The diamond
is beautiful to look at, and much more affordable than the average 2 carat rock.
That's why we are carrying it.

If you're looking at this, the
likelihood is that you've shopped for diamonds on the Internet. That means you
seen a lot of treated diamonds. We don't carry any of those. The cutters we deal
with deal in finer diamonds.
In general fine cutting houses
don't cut imperfect rough. The only times they will, is if the diamond is
exceptional, in one way or another. Sometimes it could be because the rough
diamond is very large. Obviously, this diamond was exceptional because of the color.
So it comes from a great cutter.

Lets look at some photos that will outline the imperfection in the diamond.

Below, I've outlined the imperfections in the diamond.
There's actually only two imperfections - but it looks like there's more.
How
is that possible?
The areas outlined in
Green
are "white feathers" which run at a diagonal in the "up and down"
axis.
The next area of imperfection is
outlined in
Red-
this is a carbon spot.

Oddly enough, all the areas outlined in
Blue are reflections of the
single carbon
spot.
The carbon is located beneath the very edge of the table. This
causes some weird light tricks, because you can see the carbon spot through two
different facets.
What happens is that the black reflects up from the bottom
of the diamond, in such a way that it appears that there are two spots.
IN person, the imperfections are not a bother to
me- but your preference is the issue here.
Finding a 2 carat rock, with GIA report, well
cut, with a color as amazing as this one could easily set you back triple the
price of this stone. That also makes the imperfection easier to take.....
In the video below, you can see the imperfections, yet you can also see how little the imperfections actually impact the overall sparkle of the diamond, which is prodigious.
Because of his imperfection, the cutter did not
submit the diamond for a full GIA report. Instead, he opted for the color
only variety of GIA report. Therefore, the clarity grade is mine.
Initially, I graded the diamond I1 clarity.
But after looking at a little bit, and wishing to air on the conservative side I
revised my estimate to I2 clarity
The color is remarkable in its ability to look very brown, or look beautifully yellow as well.

The cut is beautiful. There's tremendous sparkle, and ample size for a two carat diamond. It's an organic teardrop shape, nary a straight line to be found.

The color is going to really look
great once we get this puppy set.

Our Semi Mount Store
We recommend buying your
diamond and ring from the same seller. There are many reasons for
this. For one thing, you have one company to be held responsible
for the quality of your entire product.
We can sell our semi-mount
rings at a substantially lower price than we could if semi-mount rings
were our only business. Generally speaking, every time we sell a
semi-mount, we are selling the diamond that is going in the center.
Therefore we can afford to offer a super high quality product at a far
lower price could find from a company selling only semi mount rings.
Potential Ring Choices
Our rings are all "Made To
Order". Some are fully custom made. Our less expensive rings are
made from parts, selected with an extremely critical eye from commercial
casting suppliers. Meticulous attention to detail, thoughtful design, experienced
craftspeople - all contribute to the superb quality of the rings we
produce. Let us make one just for you.
