ITEM #R1662
David has asked me to write
several ads for marquise diamonds the last few days and I have leapt
into the task with gusto. He knows I have a new found
appreciation for this particular shape. He also knows I love
the fatter marquise shapes and that I am not adverse to an I, J or K
color. So I can't help but think that this isn't about
marketing - it's all just an elaborate sales trick. I'm onto
you, David.....
Of all the marquise stones I
have had the privilege to stare at endlessly this week, the cut on this
one is something else. It has fire, brilliance and a lovely
fat shape. Marquise diamonds are cut in all manner of
proportions: some are skinny and long, others are pleasantly
plump. In the diamond world, the 'perfect' length to width
ratio for a marquise is 2:1 - for example, 10mm long by 5mm
wide. Bollocks to that, me thinks. I love the wider
shapes! This one has a ratio of
1.66:1. In other words, she wouldn't be allowed on the
runways in Milan but, out in the real word, folks think she looks
gorgeous butt naked. Definitely a show stopper. All
those 2:1 marquises can go sniffle into their platinum
mountings.
1.52ct I/SI2
1.66:1
1.09ct I/SI1 2.1:1
Here's a great comparison of
two stones we have in stock right now. The one on the left is
our booty-full 1.52ct, while the one on the right is a 1.09ct (check
out our other auctions for details) with a length/width ratio just on
the other side of the 2:1 guidepost - she measures out at a
2.1:1. Both are gorgeous stones in their own right - which
one appeals more to YOUR eye.
Graded an I color with medium
blue fluorescence, this stone has a hidden talent: The
presence of the fluorescence (yeah, try saying that ten times really
fast) helps the stone to face up whiter than an I - that and an
incredible cut. I own a J color pear with faint fluorescence
and I rarely see any color in it. Remember that the I grade
is saving you shed loads of cash too. You couldn't touch a
1.5ct D SI2 for $6,600 - not even close!
By the way, this is not
David. Just call me DJ (DiamondJunkie). I'm
enjoying waxing lyrical about my sparkly passion. I have had
the privilege of being a Diamonds by Lauren (DBL) customer
for the last few years. Why choose DBL? Well, for
me I loved the fact that DBL list their items with actual photos AND
that I could call David and have him discuss the stone with me while he
held it in his hand. I can say from experience that his
expert eye has never let me down. I am now proud to be on
board and writing about such beautiful diamonds.
One more thing: you may have
picked up that I am a Brit. That said, if you have read this
ad and think you know what 'bollocks' means, please send your answers
on a postcard. The winner will be chosen at random and
granted the title of 'Honorary DBL Anglophile' - sorry, diamond not
included with the title, although I think if you bought it, you would
certainly be adding some prestige to your new moniker!
