Do you know why I
take the time to write about each and every diamond. It's because I still find
diamonds extremely attractive, and I love to look at them. Even now,
after all these years I get excited looking at diamonds- especially ones I love.
admit it- when I was 21, and learning diamonds, I found them
fascinating, yet I had no pervasive attraction to them- or none that I
was aware of....yet.
A little bit of
this company's history....
I worked my way up and up
the ladder in the diamond world.
By 1998 I had
purchased millions of dollars worth of diamonds on behalf of others, as part of
my job. But I never actually purchased
my own diamonds till April 1 1998-
the day I opened Rock Diamond Corp.
When I opened Rock Diamond, I could not afford to
actually buy diamonds for stock. I used to sell diamonds to a lot of stores in
the United States- but also a lot of stores in the Caribbean. I would borrow
stones from cutters that knew and trusted me ( crazy guys , but hey thank the
Lord for them!)- as soon as I sold a
diamond, the cutter would give me a bill. So, I never bought any diamonds at
first, until I had actually sold them.
about June of that year ( 1998), a broker brought by a stone- a really nice
looking one carat diamond. It was $1500. It was an I1 or something, but
a very good deal. Except I had to buy it, I could not borrow it- so I
went out on a limb and bought it.
was the beginning of a long strange trip.
Nowadays, Diamonds by Lauren stocks over $2.5 million of diamonds.
diamond is selected by us -and we are extremely careful when we select them, because
we own them.
one is an icy white G color- which, technically speaking, is considered
"colorless". As you can see- it's bright white. In terms of clarity, there's
very little better than VVS1- you'll never see any imperfection in this diamond.
The cut of the diamond is
of bo-koo importance- we know that. I love the cut of this one. The
corners of this emerald cut- and it's ring-mates- make for very
interesting light play. The cut is awesome, great combination of glitter
and sparkle. The size is also impressive for a 1.09- another nice aspect to this
think we're obsessive? If we are, isn't it a good thing when it comes to

How much will my new diamond appraise for?
Why insist on a GIA Report?
I can't stress this
enough- it's not the lab report that makes a great diamond. But the way a seller
represents the lab report is extremely important.

The side view, shown below, illustrates how low the profile of
the ring will be- This puts the diamonds close to your finger, where they are safer and
more comfortable than if they were set up high.
This also produces a very tailored, graceful ring.
IN a way, I look at designing rings like baseball- first you have
to get the basics right. Only after you do that can everything
else fall into place.
There are no unnecessary details on this ring. In that, I
suppose you could call it "basic", or simple- kind of
like a Monet.
Another "basic" is picking the correct side diamonds. Of course
being able to freely select from parcels- like the one below-
makes picking side emeralds which compliment the center
possible- if one focuses on that aspect- which we do.
chosen "broad" Emerald cuts.
Notice how all
three have a strong profile- all three complimenting each other. We take
great pains to choose our side stones- we're extremely lucky to have
such a vast pool of diamonds to choose from- so that we can really make
our rings extra special.

If this is your ring, you'll appreciate all that
went into making so special.
